Admission Criteria
- no GRE scores required
- baccalaureate degree in a related area — biology, chemistry, geology, or environmental science from a regionally accredited college or university
- minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) required for full admission to the program, 2.75 required for conditional admission; GPA calculations may be based upon the cumulative units or the last 60 units of the degree (see graduate admission policies for more information)
- students without an undergraduate degree in a related area are required to complete
the following courses, in consultation with the graduate program director, with a
minimum GPA of 2.75:
- two terms of introductory biology with laboratory
- two terms of introductory chemistry with laboratory
- one term of statistics OR one term of calculus
Application Requirements
Submit an online application, application fee and official transcripts, along with:
- Letters of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation from individuals who are in a position to evaluate your academic potential in this field. (Email addresses of recommenders must be entered on application.)
- Statement of Purpose: A one page statement in which you discuss your career goals and how this graduate program will help you achieve them.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae: Please include the names and contact information, including email addresses, for three individuals who can serve as references (one of whom you also will ask for a letter of recommendation as above). At least one or two of the individuals should be faculty members who are able to evaluate your academic potential and provide information on your academic and/or research history.
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
U.S. Immigration requires F1 and J1 students to be enrolled full-time with the majority of their classes taken in-person and on campus.
