Strategic Plan Alignment

In coordination with Towson University’s Strategic Plan, our goals express our commitment to advancing the public good. 

Goal 1: Educate

We will achieve national recognition for our innovative student-centered curriculum emphasizing engaged learning, in-demand academic programs, and new approaches to instruction and learning in the liberal arts, business, health professions, STEM, arts and teacher preparation.

Support undergraduate research initiatives.

Outcomes:

  • Support and increase undergraduate research opportunities.

Develop a range of assets to support the instruction of materials to support Maryland’s English language learners.

Outcomes:

  • Regional conference hub for serving English language learners.
  • Online resources for P-12 and higher ed teachers to support multi-lingual learners.

Develop new academic programs.

Outcomes:

  • Programming to attract a diverse student population.
  • New programming to meet state and regional workforce needs.
  • Develop new Ph.D. programs.

Prepare professionals to advocate for children, families, and the profession.

Outcomes:

  • Design intentional advocacy roles for students.

Goal 2: Innovate

Our faculty are leaders in scholarship and creative activities and will be fully supported in their efforts to generate new knowledge and new creative works.

Create a research and evaluation center.

Outcomes:

  • Faculty support for external funding, methodological support and evaluation.

Design a venue for content attainment outside of traditional coursework.

Outcomes:

  • Development of modules in computational thinking resulting for preservice teachers.

Goal 3: Engage

We will serve as community leaders and partners extending the talents of our students, faculty and staff beyond our campus boundaries to create opportunities for leadership, entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and experiential learning.

Redesign the Center for Professional Practice, adding faculty role(s) to foster mutually beneficial partnerships that work collaboratively to support high-quality, research-based, innovative professional learning for candidate preparation, faculty and school-based personnel to support the academic, social and emotional development, reflective of the needs of all P-12 learners.

Outcomes:

  • Improved school partnerships, teacher candidate outcomes, access to quality educational experiences for P-12 learners, and professional development opportunities for school-based and university faculty.

Goal 4: Include

We will build a collaborative community where people from all backgrounds, identities, abilities and life experiences are welcomed, valued and supported.

Develop and provide professional development that focuses on the needs of all faculty, staff and students.

Outcomes:

  • Develop an environment that enhances the retention of faculty, staff and students.

Actively reach out to potential candidates at conferences and other events to recruit faculty and staff who can support our student population's needs and post job opportunities in various search engines.

  • Increased number of faculty who can support our student population's needs.

Goal 5: Support

We will recruit, retain and graduate students of the highest caliber, offer outstanding student success services, and provide an engaging campus experience that reflects the educational values of Towson University and produces graduates prepared for careers or advanced education.

Actions

Increase the number of programs online.

Outcomes:

  • Increase enrollment for students who cannot come to campus.

Redesign advising to include mentoring to provide support for all pre-majors.

Outcomes:

  • Increase retention of students in the COE programs.

Implement and monitor the outcomes of student recruitment and retention plans. 

Outcomes:

  • Increase COE student population.

Develop and implement teacher residency models to recruit and retain teacher candidates.

  • Increased enrollment and retention.
