Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.)
Application Deadline
Admission to the Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.) is for the fall term only with the following application deadline:
- Final Deadline: Jan. 15
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and related materials to CSDCAS as early as possible to allow CSDCAS to verify materials in a timely manner. Applicants should also submit the Towson University online application by January 15 (see Application Requirements below).
Admission Criteria
- No GRE scores are required.
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) overall, in the major coursework and in the last 60 credits of study is required for consideration for admission to the program. See graduate admission policies for more information.
- Applicants to the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) MS program must have a bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology/ audiology or communication disorders from a regionally accredited college or university OR have a bachelor’s degree in an alternate field with completion of specific prerequisite coursework as described below.

All students, regardless of their undergraduate background, are required to complete coursework in the following areas for certification by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Two of these courses must be complete with a grade of C (2.0) or above at the time of application and all four must be completed by the start of the program.

Students with Degrees in Different Fields
Students without a bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology and audiology/communication disorders have two options for entering the program:
- Complete a Second bachelor’s degree speech-language pathology and audiology/communication disorders at an accredited institution. Students may apply to the second bachelor’s program at Towson University or any other accredited university.
Or
- Complete prerequisite course work in communication disorders at an accredited university or through individual courses at one or more universities. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher. Please contact the graduate program with questions and requirements related to prerequisites (slpgradprogram AT_TOWSON).
Prerequisite Coursework Areas: (At least 4 of these courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or above at the time of application, the remainder must be completed by start of program except as noted)
- Anatomy and Physiology of the Auditory and Vocal Mechanism
- Phonetics of American English
- Speech and Language Development
- Speech Sound Disorders
- Language Disorders
- Speech Science
- Introduction to Audiology
- Clinical Observations and Techniques* (Note: This course must include 25 documented observation hours)
- Introduction to Aural Rehabilitation* (Note: This course may be taken during the SLP program)
Application Requirements
Complete the CSDCAS application with the following items by January 15:
- Official Transcripts: Request that official transcripts from all U.S. institutions attended be sent to CSDCAS
- Letters of Recommendation: Request three letters of recommendation be sent through the CSDCAS recommender portal. At least 2 of the 3 letters must be from professors. The third letter may be from a professional contact or a professor.
- Personal Statement/Essay: Submit a personal statement/essay according to instructions and prompts on CSDCAS.
- Submit the Towson University Supplemental online application by January 15
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
U.S. Immigration requires F1 and J1 students to be enrolled full-time with the majority of their classes taken in-person and on campus. GPA calculations may be based upon the cumulative units or the last 60 units of the degree. Additionally, for international students and students whose first language is not English, a TOEFL IBT score of 100 is required for this program. For admissions purposes, Towson University may waive the English proficiency requirements based on your academic records. Please check the licensure requirements for English competency in the state where you plan to get licensed.
Application Timeline
Applicants who meet the January 15 deadline will receive a decision offer in late February to early March, and will have until April 15 to accept the offer of admission.
