Please review the presentation and workshop options from the following list and then submit a request.
Workshop Options
Alcohol 101
A guided discussion about basic alcohol facts, recognizing alcohol poisoning, and
the dangers of mixing alcohol with other substances. In a hands-on, interactive format,
students will learn strategies they can use to make safer choices if they choose to
drink. This workshop will also help students learn how to talk to a friend they are
concerned about as well as understand how to connect them to TU resources.
Marijuana 101
An interactive workshop designed to teach students the basics about marijuana, including common myths, its impact on the body, and the dangers of high THC. Students will learn strategies to make safer choices if they choose to use marijuana. Students will learn about university policies related to marijuana use as well. This workshop will also help students learn how to talk to a friend they are concerned about and connect them to TU resources.
Weeding out the Myths: Marijuana and Sleep
Is marijuana helping you sleep? In this interactive workshop, we investigate the myth that marijuana can be a sleep aid. Students will learn about the impact of marijuana on their sleep cycle and alternative strategies to improve their sleep hygiene without marijuana.
Substances and Stress
Do you use marijuana or alcohol to unwind after a long day? Students will learn about the stress response while exploring their own experiences with stress. Students will learn about why some people use substances as a coping mechanism and how that impacts their mental health. They will be challenged to think about alternative coping strategies, forms of self-care, and ways to make more informed decisions with substances.
Speaking of Substances
A workshop to equip students with the knowledge and tools they need to recognize the signs of problematic substance use and express their concerns compassionately.
Sports Betting & Gambling 101
A guided discussion about what constitutes sports betting and gambling, the risks, and ways to reduce the risk of harm. Students will learn how to talk to a friend or a loved one if you are concerned about gambling behavior.
Party Smart Bingo
This interactive bingo-style workshop will teach students about multiple different substances (alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco/vaping) as well as different TU resources. This 1-hour game is high energy, making it a great option for residence halls. This format can be adapted to jeopardy as well.
Recovery Ally Training
This training will teach you how to support students in recovery from substance use disorders. Upon completion of this one-hour training, you will receive a Recovery Ally sticker, which you can display to show your support. The Recovery Ally Training is available for all members of the TU community.
Overdose Response Training
As a state approved overdose response program, we offer a one hour training on how to respond to an opioid overdose. Upon completion of the training, attendees will receive two doses of naloxone. To request this training, please contact Zack Hitchens at zhitchens AT_TOWSON
