Windows Operating Systems
The campus is transitioning from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
Windows 11/PC Compatibility project
Spring 2023 - fall 2025
Status: wrap up/on track
Microsoft support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025. Since the spring of 2023, Office of Technology Services (OTS) technicians have been contacting and working directly with departments to identify and address computers that are incompatible with Windows 11 to ensure the campus is prepared for this change in vendor support.
As a result of this large-scale and collaborative effort, more than 1,100 university computers were identified as incompatible with Windows 11 and have been replaced, and nearly 1,600 TU computers have been upgraded to be compatible. Thank you to our campus partners for your help!
Thanks to this multi-year, cross-campus effort, most TU computers are already running Windows 11 and no action is needed for those devices. If your computer is one of the few still running Windows 10, self-upgrade to Windows 11 through the Software Center before Oct. 14.
If you get a pop-up message related to Windows Operating Systems when logging into a TU computer, contact the OTS Technology Support Desk at 410-704-5151 for next steps.
Upgrade your compatible computer
Check which version of Windows you're running
In the search box on the taskbar (magnifying glass), type winver and then press Enter. The About Windows dialog box will launch and display the version.
Confirm your computer's compatibility, then upgrade
Launch the Software Center then click the Operating Systems tab. If you see Windows 11, your computer is compatible, and you can continue with the upgrade through the Software Center. If you need help or aren't sure, submit a TechHelp service request.
