David White, Ph.D. is Professor at Towson University whose work as a playwright, dramaturg, director, and scholar focuses on the intersection of writing for the stage, nurturing new work, folklore, and oral tradition.
Since 2008, David has been the founding Artistic Director of the Towson Theatre Lab, reading, responding, and developing hundreds of works by students, faculty, and alumni.
David’s plays have been presented in the United States and abroad including productions across the US and as far away as Uzbekistan. David's has directed productions of solo performance works and new plays in theatres around the US.
David worked as the Literary Manager at the O'Neill Center and as an Artistic Director of WordBRIDGE Playwrights Lab supporting work by playwrights including George Brant, Julia Cho, Quiara Alegria Hudes, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Antoinette Nwandu.
David earned his B.A. from the now besieged New College in Sarasota, Florida, an M.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
